Pastoral Transition Handbook

From Our Pastor

We thank the Annual Catholic Appeal witness speaker last weekend for sharing with us how we can live our life according to what we believe and support this campaign. We thank you for taking your time to fill in your commitment card and for returning it to us at the Parish Office or sending it to the Archdiocese’s Office. We encourage those who have not filled their commitment card to do so! We encourage you to support this special campaign, as it especially supports the larger Church’s Ministry.

I also received information that I will have a full-time Parochial Vicar Priest who will assist me with my responsibilities and duties as Pastor of St. Ann, Visitation and St. John of the Woods’ Churches as well as having the support and assistance from Father Patrick McDermont as senior priest. In addition, we will have some support from Permanent Deacons as well. I am working on the Ministry Agreement with Deacon Theman Pham as well as Deacon Michael Teskey. The Permanent Deacon’s Office is reviewing the document and the Archbishop will appoint them to join our team after the Vicar for the Clergy office has approved it. I am also working with Archbishop’s Office, the Vicar for Clergy Office and the Chancery Offices together with the transition team members from their offices to provide all different information to support and assist us during this transition. I attended the meeting with the transition team last Wednesday together with other Priests who have received their new assignments. It was an extremely helpful meeting and we learned a lot from it, as we now know how to seek support and obtain resources to assist us.

I apologize for some information that you may be wondering about and it might have caused some confusion, fear or has made you upset or angry, because it was made unclear during this transition. I ask you to join me to pray for this time of transition, May the Holy Spirit guide and comfort us! Experiencing change and re-adjustment into a new situation is always very difficult for us all. Change is exceedingly difficult, so we need lots of love and care towards each other as we are all part of this process, and we need to have virtues such as patience, understanding, wisdom, and most importantly to trust in God who will lead us, so we can have peace in Him and in each other!

There is more information about our parishes’ activities that I encourage you to visit our parishes’ website, Facebook, and read our parishes’ bulletin. Please make our parish a place of welcoming all members and you will join me to welcome them! May you have a blessed week, and we thank you for continuing to support our parish!

Fr. Tuan Nguyen, Pastor

Finance Council Report

The Saint Ann Finance Council met on May 5th.  The meeting was held via the internet and Parish financial reports through March 2021 were reviewed. Through March, Collections were $17,066 below the budgeted amount and Total Income was $11,185 above the budgeted amount. Income was boosted by earnings from Vietnamese Community Activities and Devotions totaling $29,480. Expenses were $38,896 above the budgeted amount. Parish expenses are higher than anticipated due to unanticipated repairs, supplies and equipment required to comply with COVID-19 guidelines, and unbudgeted upgrades to the facility security systems. Income for the School Building is $4,155 below the budgeted amount due to lower than anticipated Child Care/Extended Care revenue and current restrictions on fund raising activities. The Parish is currently operating at a loss of $27,711 for the Fiscal Year and having to use savings to cover the deficit.

Stewardship of Time and Talent Campaign is currently in progress and 4 new people have made commitments to volunteer at the Parish. Please consider sharing your time and talents by making a commitment to assist with Parish activities and committees. Your help is needed so our Parish can continue to meet the needs of the parishioners.

The Parish is financially sound thanks to your support. Thank you all for your prayers, financial support, and donations of time and talent to keep our Parish operating.

2021 - 2022 Annual Catholic Appeal

Begin May 2021 - End April 2022

The ACA is a combined effort between the Archdiocese of Seattle and 169 parishes to support a vibrant Catholic Community in Western Washington and to carry out the mission of the Church. The ACA funds Catholic social ministries, programs for youth and young adult ministries, Catholic Schools, faith programs, plus administrative support for parishes such as liturgy guidance, evangelization, human resources, and so much more. We can’t do it without your support.

This year our parish share of the Appeal is $42,190. If we exceed this amount, all payments above our share will come back to the parish in the form of a rebate to be used for building fence around Church facilities. In this way, your donations not only help support the ministries of our church in Western Washington, but also our needs here at St. Ann Parish
